Richmond Travertine Ash Porcelain at a Joondalup Home
A soft grey, travertine-look porcelain runs across the pool surrounds and alfresco of this Joondalup home, tying the whole poolside together in one finish. The paver is Richmond Travertine Ash, part of our porcelain range of pavers, chosen here for its gentle movement and mid grey tone.
What lifts this project is the detailing. The pavers have been cut to follow the curved garden beds and finished around the pool with a mitred edge, the kind of result that comes from a good paver in the hands of a skilled installer.
Installed by a Country Earth Endorsed Installer.
Key Takeaways
- Richmond Travertine Ash gives a soft grey, travertine-look finish with gentle, cloud-like movement across each tile.
- One finish carried across the pool surrounds and alfresco keeps the whole poolside consistent.
- Curved cuts around the garden beds show what a careful installer can do with large-format porcelain.
- A mitred coping join forms a clean drop-down edge over the pool shell.
- R11 slip rated, and porcelain that performs well under everyday poolside use.
A Joondalup Pool and Alfresco Project
Project Details:
- Paver: Richmond Travertine Ash porcelain
- Coping: Mitred join, porcelain
- Application: Pool surrounds and alfresco
- Design style: Contemporary
- Location: Residential property, Joondalup
This project runs one porcelain finish across two areas that usually get treated separately: the pool surrounds and the alfresco. Carrying the same paver through both keeps the poolside reading as a single, considered area rather than a set of stitched-together zones, and it lets the detailing around the pool and the garden beds do the talking.
Curved Cuts and Considered Detailing
Straight paving is straightforward. Curves are where the skill shows. At this property the porcelain has been cut to follow the rounded edges of the garden beds, holding a clean, consistent joint line around each curve. Large-format porcelain is dense and unforgiving to cut, so a curved run like this takes patience and a steady hand to get right.
Around the pool, the edge is finished with a mitred join. The top paver and the vertical face are cut and joined at 45 degrees to form a square drop-down edge over the pool shell, a crisp, architectural finish that suits large-format pavers.
Richmond Travertine Ash: Colour and Surface Character
Richmond Travertine Ash sits in a soft mid grey, with a gentle, cloud-like movement across the face of each tile that echoes the look of natural travertine. In a couple of the photos the poolside reads paler, but that is wet stone under strong sun. The true tone is an even, cool grey.
Because it is porcelain, the variation is controlled. You get character and movement across the surface without the wide tile-to-tile variation that gives natural stone its own individual appeal. Across a large poolside run, that consistency keeps the finish looking calm from one end to the other. The rectified edges also allow laying with fine joints, which keeps the focus on the paver rather than the grid.
Technical Performance
Porcelain is fired at very high temperatures, which produces a dense, non-porous tile. That density is behind most of its practical strengths outdoors.
The surface does not absorb liquids, so spills from food, drink, and household chemicals sit on top and wipe clean rather than staining. It holds its colour under sustained WA sun without fading. It stands up well to the everyday demands of a poolside and alfresco under normal residential use. And like all of our porcelain, Richmond Travertine Ash is rated R11 for slip resistance, the relevant rating for the wet areas around a pool.
Joondalup and the Surrounding Area
Joondalup is one of Perth’s major northern centres, set around Lake Joondalup, with a mix of established homes and newer builds and plenty of outdoor living to make the most of the climate. A project like this one shows how a considered poolside works on a suburban block.
We supply paving throughout Joondalup and the surrounding northern suburbs, and our showroom at Homebase, Subiaco is an easy visit to see the porcelain range in person before you decide. If you are planning a poolside or alfresco project, come in or get in touch for a quote.
